Political corruption is threat to Indian national interest

Corruption in public life threat to national Interest

The term corruption is an abstract one. World Bank has described corruption as an abuse of administrative or public powers to achieve personal gains. However, this is the simplest definition of the deadliest demon called corruption. Corruption is multi-dimensional and political corruption is the worst out of all the facets of corruption. It can endanger the national security and weaken the strength of country slowly but continuously. It blocks the road of economic development, availability of basic amenities for common citizens and research and development.

Once Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, Naxalism and activities of the Maoists are greater threats to India compared to terrorism. Maoists who are causing the mass scale destruction are not foreigners. They are capable of motivating simple tribal and poor people to pick guns only because the latter are deprived of the basic amenities of life. And behind this, political corruption is the biggest factor. Several thousand crores of rupees had been allocated in different five year plans for the development of tribal areas and people living below poverty line. However, there is no significant change is marked in the situation. It means significant amount of the allocated money had been grabbed illegally by the people who were in charge of implementing the plan and expenditure of the funds. Maoists have expanded their activities leaps and bounds in several states of India only due to mass scale political corruption that prevented the poorest of the poor to avail the basic requirements of life.

Political corruption hinders the path of economic development

Until and unless there is a transparent political system, red-tapism will be a prevalent road block for Indian economic development. Corruption upsets foreign direct investment and foreign companies to start their operation in a country. In this globalized economy, without technology sharing and collaboration achieving and sustaining growth is a day dream. Hence, political system needs to be transparent and free from corruption for the overall betterment of the country.
